Why Wildland: Ecuador

1. 35+ Years Owner Experience in Adventure Travel
hiking tour company

A business is only as good as those who hold bottom line responsibility for the integrity, direction, culture and policies of the organization. It's difficult to beat Wildland in this respect! One Wildland owner, Brad Ball, alone has more than 35 years of experience in adventure travel! He started instructing for the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) in the early 1980s, and has been involved in the outdoor world ever since, co-founding Wildland Trekking in 2005. In sum total, our owner experience exceeds 65 years! Also, Seth Quigg (co-owner of Wildland International, the partner company of WTC that runs our Global Adventures), is an award-winning international guide with well over a decade of experience across the globe. In short, if experience matters to you look no further!

2. Exceptional U.S. Wildland Guide(s) on Every Trip
hiking tour company

Every Ecuador trip is led by one or more of our award-winning, U.S. guides. Our commitment is to hire and train the best guides in the industry. To ensure this we seek out career-minded guides, hire them as employees (not independent contractors), conduct periodic staff trainings, and require current medical certifications. In addition to technical competency and credentials, we also require excellent people skills. These extraordinary men and women have the ability to turn a great get-away into an unforgettable, inspiring - and sometimes truly life changing - adventure. We invite you to read more about them - including reviews for each guide - on our Meet Our Team page.

3. Thoroughly Vetted Local Support Staff

We hire thoroughly vetted, proven, local guides and support staff to ensure a high quality in-country experience for our guests. Your professional camp chef is also local and will introduce you to an array of Ecuadorian dishes as we trek across the mountains.

4. All-inclusive, Small Group Travel

We take care of everything so you can focus 100% on enjoying Ecuador! From the moment you arrive at the airport in Quito, our Ecuador trips are all-inclusive (with the exception of a few in-town meals we set aside for you to explore and enjoy on your own). We handle all of the logistics so you can focus 100% on enjoying your trip. We also have a maximum group size of 10 guests (most companies take 16-25 guests). The small group nature of our trips allows us to provide a higher level of service, a more customized feel, greater group cohesion, and more accessible interpretation/education from the guides.

5. Comprehensive Risk Management

All of our guides are either certified Wilderness First Responders or EMTs, and each carries a field-issued first aid kit, comprehensive list of medical protocols, and a satellite phone. Finally we have a 24-hour on-call line that our staff, guests, and family members of guests can call any time (literally) to speak with a company representative.

About Us

"Nicole and Camilo were amazing guides! I can't imagine being in better hands. Zero complaints. Nicole is a badass. She was incredibly considerate of each group members experience, and had planned for every detail while still allowing for spontaneity. She managed to make us feel completely safe in an unfamiliar part of the world, while still creating a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Camilo is the man. His extensive knowledge of the culture and history of the area really made the trip amazing. We never got the feel that we had a boring museum guide with us. Camilo's passion for his country is contagious, and his personality and sense of humor brought a great energy to the group." - David P.

"My husband and I had the opportunity to travel with Seth and Wildland International to Ecuador this June. When we told our friends and family, we were traveling to Ecuador, we were asked two questions. One, "Are you going to the Galapagos?" "No." And secondly, "Then why are you going to Ecuador?" We have hiked with Wildland Trekking before in the Grand Canyon so we knew we would be in good hands with this adventure to hike the Quilotoa Loop and the Andes Mountains.

"What we could not have possibly imagined was just how good of hands we would be in. Wildland International went above and beyond any of our expectations. From planning the perfect hikes for each day to giving us wonderful information about the biodiversity/geology/history of the country each day while hiking. At the end of each day, we were surprised with some of the most beautiful inns to stay at each night that almost seemed like a dream. You get to see the natural beauty of the country and then you're rewarded again with amazing evening arrangements that one would not think would exit in these small villages. There was never not a comfy bed or a fabulous meal awaiting you at the end of each day of hiking.

"The company of the guides on our trip extended the warm experience we had of the trip. They truly made us feel welcome and like family. If you are looking for a journey that will stay with you forever, make sure it is with Wildland International! You won't regret it!"

- Gavin & Heather J.

"Nicole and Camillo, the guides, attended to every want and need the group possibly had." - Brian S. (trekked with us in Ecuador)
