On the outskirts of the Greater Yellowstone Area
lies a mountain range of extraordinary size and wildness. The Wind River
Mountain Range has amassed the most numerous collection of glaciers in the lower
48 states and is home to Gannett Peak, Wyoming’s highest peak, measuring in at
13,804 feet. This seven day, 40-mile journey is an exploration of the
seldom-visited northern portion of the Wind River Range. The itinerary takes us
into the depths of the mountains and back in a large loop. Along the way we
will pass towering granite walls, camp among pristine alpine lakes, and traverse
the toe of a massive glacier that straddles the continental divide. We will
reach elevations of 12,500 feet, where we are literally looking down on
everything around us. Two rest days are built into the itinerary of this trip
for exploration and enjoyment of the range. Great spots for fly-fishing, "peak
bagging," or relaxation are abundant among these high peaks.
