This classic hike
begins in a beautiful, serpentine canyon and finishes with a cross-country
traverse across a sea of slickrock. We start down Harris Wash and slowly wander
past overhanging cliffs, deep alcoves, and sandy beaches. Moderate hiking means
we’re in camp early and have time to identify rare wildflowers, explore ancient
Indian sites, or do nothing but relax with a good book. After a few timeless
days in the canyon, we’ll ascend to the beautiful pinyon-juniper benchlands of
higher country. Here we’ll navigate the rolling slickrock (map and compass
skills good?) and take time to drink in the endless views, before eventually
arriving back at our starting point.
Extension: Add an additional day
and we’ll lay over at the Escalante River. This provides an opportunity
to explore Silver Creek Falls or Choprock Canyon.
