Peru Portered Treks
Peru Portered Treks
This trip is a Portered Trek in Peru, which differs significantly from our U.S.A. portered trips. The primary difference is the camping set up is more elaborate: we include sleeping tents, kitchen/dining tents, bathroom tents, clean drinking water, hot water to wash your face and hands, and other amenities. These trips include porters and/or livestock to carry all of the gear, food, and most of our personal items.
This trip utilizes Nepali teahouses, which are small hotels in Himalayan villages that provide sleeping rooms and home cooked meals. The character and quality of the teahouses vary somewhat depending on the trip. The teahouses we use on the Everest and Annapurna trips are very nice, most with private rooms, flush toilets, hot water showers, and a wonderful selection of beverage and meal choices. On the Upper Mustang Trek, the teahouses tend to be more basic and you can expect, some nights, to sleep in a common room around a toasty stove following a tasty meal of dhal bhatt (hot rice and lentils).
Iceland Mountain Huts
Iceland Mountain Huts
This trip utilizes the Iceland mountain hut system, which provides backcountry structures for sleeping. The huts are communal accommodations (i.e. multiple parties in large rooms), and are quite rustic. They are dry and comfortable compared to camping when the Iceland weather is stormy, which is relatively often. Food, gear and personal items are transported by animals, porters or vehicles, and your guide does all the cooking. These trips are continuous point-to-point hiking excursions that take you through some of the most iconic and stunning landscapes in Iceland.
Please Note: On our South Coast Hut-based Tour, we use the huts as a more affordable alternative to lodges and hotels, so that trip is not a point-to-point trek.
