Description
Built by the Sante Fe Railroad as a route to Hermit Camp, this historic trail leads us through fossil beds in the limestone and sandstone formations to Waldron Basin. Our destination will be Dripping Springs, a desert spring that seeps from the ceiling of a shallow sandstone cave. Where do we Meet?
   
 
You will rendezvous with your guide at the Backcountry office at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon between 5 and 9 AM. There will be a short orientation and then you're off to the trailhead. To get to the Backcountry Office, refer to the map that you receive when you enter the park.
 
       
 
Gear and Clothing
   
 
We provide the use of Deuter or Osprey day packs for these hikes, as well as a set of high end trekking poles and traction crampons in icy or snowy conditions.

We ask you to bring the following:
  • Lightweight hiking shoes
  • Waterproof rain jacket or poncho
  • Warm top (wool or fleece jacket)
  • Warm hat and gloves (Spring, Fall, Winter)
  • Water bottles or bladder (3 liters total capacity)
  • Knee braces (if needed)
  • Sunhat and sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Camera
