Our Copper Canyon trip follows the newly rediscovered and historic Silver Trail (Ruta de Plata) from La Laja into Batopilas. See the canyons literally from top to bottom on ancient Tarahumara trails. Expect perfect weather, amazing vistas and great opportunities for birding, exploring the natural and cultural history of the area and some real adventure. The route takes in some incredibly remote backcountry that has seen few outsiders during the past 100 years - since the last Mining Company mule trains made their final treks during the early days of the Mexican Revolution.
No previous experience is required, but participants should be in good physical condition. Trails are unmaintained and rugged with plenty of uphill and downhill. We provide all backpacking gear, food, transportation from Chihuahua and back as well as lodging and meals in Batopilas, Cusarare and Chihuahua (except for one supper in Chihuahua) as well pack animals and American/local guides. The program originates and ends in Chihuahua.
This is a "must do" adventure for people who really want to see and experience the famous and fabulous Copper Canyon!
