Y2Y CANADIAN ROCKIES TOURS

"Mountain caribou exist in isolated populations throughout the Rocky Mountains from Banff to the Peace Region. Considered one of the most endangered mammals in North America, the southern mountain caribou population has been steadily declining from approximately 2,200 in the late 1990s to about 1,900 today".

Our Sawback Tour is Banff’s crown jewel of backcountry adventures. On this four-day trip we hike past limestone peaks and over three alpine passes. Starting from Johnston Canyon and finishing at Lake Louise, this tour encompasses a variety of terrain, including deep water-carved canyons, forested valleys, marshes, lakes, and alpine country. Day two includes an optional hike up to Badger pass for a view of the Bonnet Glacier. The route also represents prime habitat for a number of different wildlife species, including grizzly bears, wolves, wolverines, big horn sheep, mountain goats, and hoary marmots. This trip truly is a grand adventure. To learn more or reserve your spot, call us at 800-715-4453 (HIKE) and get it started today!

On this tour we will explore the headwaters of the Brazeau River and the vast alpine meadows that drape this remote area. "The Loop," as we like to call it, features fascinating natural and cultural history as you hike along ancient trails once used by indigenous people and later by trappers and mountain men. Wildlife opportunities abound as we hike through prime wolf, moose, and elk habitat, and there's even a chance of seeing a rare mountain caribou!

Beginning at Nigel Pass near the Columbia Icefields, we hike along the majestic Brazeau River for two days before climbing up into the high country. Above treeline is an ocean of alpine meadows where herds of mountain caribou graze. After traversing these meadows, we'll loop back around and end up where we started, learning about the area with every step.
