This point-to-point route travels a sea of
slickrock and offers challenging off-trail hiking and spectacular views
(want to learn how to use a map and compass?). It also provides an
opportunity to experience the canyons as we cross over Sand Creek, Death
Hollow, and Mamie Creek. These are beautiful drainages providing
outstanding camping, riparian oases, and opportunities for endless
exploration. The diversity and beauty of this route is the draw, but it
also played an important role in the history of the area as it was used
to deliver mail and supplies between the towns of Boulder and Escalante
in the early 1900s.
Extension: Add an adventurous
additional day and head down Death Hollow and the Escalante River.
Requires wading and short swims.
Mileage: 24 miles
Price: $900 |
